Location

Hotel Como stands on Piazza Stazione Centrale in Syracuse, opposite the railway station and about 200 metres from the Corso Umberto terminal for long-distance buses. The Neapolis is 750 metres away, while Ortigia begins about 1.2 km away at the Temple of Apollo and is a 15 to 30-minute walk.

Getting there

From Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, 47 km away, the easiest option is the direct Interbus IN01 coach: it leaves from arrivals and reaches the Corso Umberto terminal, about 200 metres from the hotel, in around 70 minutes. A taxi takes about 45 to 60 minutes, and the hotel can also arrange a transfer on request, with a charge. Until 31 January 2027 the Catania rail line is closed for engineering works and replaced by buses.

From Comiso, 59 km away, there is no direct public transport, so a car or transfer is best. Drivers take the Catania–Syracuse motorway and then the SS114. The hotel has free outdoor parking, subject to availability, and there is public street parking nearby. For Ortigia, leave the car behind: the limited traffic zone has changing hours, so check them on the city council website.

What to see

The Neapolis Archaeological Park, a UNESCO site together with Ortigia, brings together the fifth-century BC Greek Theatre, the Latomia del Paradiso with the Ear of Dionysius and the Roman Amphitheatre. In May and June 2027 the Greek Theatre hosts the new INDA season of classical drama, and you can walk back to the hotel afterwards.

In Ortigia, make time for the Temple of Apollo, the cathedral built over the Temple of Athena, the Fountain of Arethusa with its papyrus and Castello Maniace. For a swim, Cala Rossa is a small rocky cove on the edge of Ortigia, while the Plemmirio Marine Protected Area, about 5 km away, has coves and good snorkelling. The best months for sightseeing are mid-April to mid-May and mid-September to mid-October.
